Based on screen material, mainstream smartphone screens can be divided into two main categories: LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), such as TFT and SLCD screens; and OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode), such as AMOLED screens. The fundamental difference between LCD and OLED is that OLED is self-emissive, while LCD requires a backlight to display.
Based on the display technology and driving method, screens can be divided into two main categories: passive matrix and active matrix. The difference between passive and active matrices lies in the current driving method. When an external current passes through, the arrangement of the liquid crystals changes. If the liquid crystals maintain their original arrangement after the current stops (having memory), it is called an active matrix; while if they return to their original position as soon as the current disappears and must be recharged to re-align, it is called a passive matrix.
